I’m just over halfway through the edits for A Shift in Fate. This is the part where things start to get tricky. There are two major things I’m changing based on the feedback I got from my editor. I’m removing one character completely. They’ll be referenced towards the end, but they won’t appear on the page until Book Three. That change won’t actually require that much reworking. They were only I’m a couple scenes, and they didn’t impact the main story line, which is why they’re being removed from the book : )

The other change I’m making is a little more complicated. The main characters are going to learn about something midway through the book, whereas previously they didn’t learn about it until almost the end. It’s a good change to make because it makes the main plot a lot stronger and gives me some excellent opportunities for stronger character building. But it does mean that basically every chapter from the middle and onward needs to be adjusted. Some more so than others, making the entire process a bit tedious.

This is where zombies come in.

I love horror movies. Especially zombie horror. In the U.S. we got over-saturated with zombie movies and that genre basically died off. Thanks Resident Evil. But there are still good zombie movies and shows out there, and nobody does it better than South Korea. One of my all-time favorite zombie movies is Train to Busan. Netflix has been recommending All of Us Are Dead to me for months now, but I haven’t had time to watch it. I detest watching dubbed versions which means in order to watch it; I had to actually be able to devote my full attention to it so I could read the subtitles. Everyone has different work strategies. I tend to use a reward system. In this case, for every hour I spend editing, I get to take a break and watch 30 minutes of an episode. It’s a good way for me to keep chugging through the edits without getting burnt out.

My partner and I are also doing our first camping trip of the year this weekend. He’s actually leaving today. I’m joining him at the campground tomorrow where I will continue to work on edits with intermissions of zombie goodness. I might add in some cookies for additional reward purposes.
